United Way NCA Awards St. Ann's $9,250 for Teen Mother-Baby Program

The United Way of the National Capital Area has awarded a Community Impact Grant in the amount of $9,250 for St. Ann's Teenn Mother-Baby Program, a comprehensive residential program for vulnerable young women, ages thirteen to twenty-one who are pregant or have recently given birth and have no place else to turn.

"We are thrilled and grateful to receive the United Way's support once again this year," said Sister Mary Bader, St. Ann's CEO.  "The United Way and St. Ann's have long been partners in ensuringthat at-risk mothers and children have a safe place to live and learn on their path to greater family stability and economic security."

"The goal of the Community Impact Grants is to create collective impact in our three focus areas - education, health and financial stability - in ways that best serve each of our eight regions," said Bill Hanbury, President and CEO, United Way NCA.

St. Ann's Teen Mother-Baby Program meets the health needs of both the young mothers and their infants with 24-hour nursing care and coordination of all doctor and hospital visits. Our fully-accredited high school offers one-on-one instruction to help students overcome gaps in their education and make progress toward a high school diploma or GED. Program participants receive mental health counseling and individual therapy as appropriate. We plan and coordinate recreational activities, offer effective parenting training, and teach basic life skills such as household safety and maintenance and financial responsibility.

In partnership with Providence Hospital and Fort Lincoln Family Medical Center, our young mothers also receive the following medical services:

           • Weekly Prenatal Clinics

           • Childbirth Preparation Classes

           • Labor and Delivery

           • Postpartum Follow-Up Care

           • Well-Woman/Well-Baby/Child Care Exams

All of our services are designed to produce the optimum health and education outcomes for the young mothers and children in our care. By ensuring that they receive high quality health care and an outstanding education, St. Ann’s is putting them on the path to independence and economic stability.
