| St. Ann's Day Care Center, founded in 1949, was reopened in 1982 for the children of working parents. The program is tailored to the unique needs of each child, regardless of race, religion or ethnic background. Ours was the first non-hospital-based infant day care program licensed in Maryland.
For Infants. . .
Who will care for my baby? St. Ann's has a Committed staff of childcare workers dedicated to providing quality care in a nurturing setting. Foster Grandparents from Prince George's County Department of Aging provide many extra loving hands to care for your child.
What is the daily schedule? We try to make our daily schedule as natural and homelike as possible. As your baby gets older, he will be introduced to the rhythm of our daily schedule of active and quiet play periods, indoor and outdoor activities, field trips, art, music, and, of course meals and nap time. We encourage parents to take part in this planning and make suggestions, when appropriate.
For Ages Two Through Four . . .
What is a typical day like? Our program includes both planned group activities and a range of free-time activity options your child can select. The daily schedule offers a balance of indoor and outdoor, active and quiet play. Experiences with language, music, art, science, field trips, drama and a variety of play equipment are provided to help your child grow socially, intellectually, emotionally, and physically.
Will my child be taught to read and write? No. The focus of our program is on social skills. However, each time your child paints a picture, uses a crayon, or rolls the play doh, he or she is learning the hand-eye coordination necessary to read and write. Through these activities your child is also developing a healthy self-concept that will help in school and beyond. When children leave our program they are prepared to enter school and succeed.
Can I observe my child? You are welcome to watch your child and our program in action. We want you to know and understand what we are doing with your child on a day-to-day basis. We also have an active parent association.
For All the Children . . .
What about meals? All children are served a hot lunch. Menus are posted to assist parents in planning a balanced daily diet for their children. Weekly cooking sessions also help reinforce good eating habits. Children eat breakfast before coming to the center. Parents provide a morning and afternoon snack. The center provides a nutritious lunch, milk and juice. All meals meet nutritional guidelines.
What can you tell me about the facilities? Each age group has its own play room equipped with the materials needed to meet the developmental needs of the youngsters. In addition to outdoor play areas, we have two rainy day indoor playrooms and a room for sand and water play.
What are the hours? The Day Care Center is open from 7:00a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
What is the cost? There is a set fee for each age served. Please call to get the current rate.
