Sister Nancy's Note: Mother's Day at St. Ann's Center

St. Ann's Center welcomes and prays for our Pope and our world!

     Happy Mother’s Day!

Today as we celebrate the mothers and mother figures in our lives, I want to especially thank you for helping St. Ann’s Center celebrate the moms participating in our supportive and transitional housing programs.

Today there are 22 women and their children spending Mother’s Day with us, including many new and first-time moms. Thanks to you, our residents can celebrate this weekend together in fun and meaningful ways – like yesterday’s volunteer-led “Mother’s Day Makeover” party (complete with hair stylist)!

And of course, your support means that moms can count on St. Ann’s throughout the entire year – especially during those late nights and early morning when parenthood feels less celebratory and more challenging.

One of our residents, Princess, recently shared about the difference St. Ann’s Center made for her as a brand-new mom:

"I was very emotional, as a first-time mom. And some nights [my daughter] would just cry and I wouldn’t understand why, and I would just sit there and rock her. [St. Ann’s] staff would come calm me down, sing a lullaby to her and she went straight to sleep.

"I was so happy that someone came and helped me and told me, ‘It’s okay, the baby’s gonna naturally do that.’ And to this day I just tell myself that. If she’s crying, I know she’s going to be fine.”

     - Princess, Faith House Resident

I hope you can see, that your support makes all the difference for the mothers like Princess as they try to find their way in this big – and sometimes scary – new role of "Mom."

Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for being there for the women we serve.

God bless you,

Sister Nancy Downing, CND
CEO, St. Ann's Center for Children, Youth and Families
