Sister Nancy's Note: The Ways You Make a Difference

Hello from St. Ann’s Center! With Fall officially here, I wanted to highlight the ways you helped make a difference this summer.

  • Summer Fun: St. Ann's families - 23 mothers and their 27 children - made awesome memories together this summer, bonding over fun, on-site activities like BBQs, celebrations, and field days.
  • Women Achieving: K., one of our Hope House clients, passed her Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam, while C., one of our Faith House clients, completed her Nursing degree – amazing milestones on each woman’s path to independence.

  • Back-to-School: St. Ann’s families – well-equipped by donors to begin the school year – have successfully adapted to new schedules and routines. Here at our Child Care Center, 74 total students have begun the new program year in our Preschool Program and Infant & Toddler Program.
  • Transitions and New Starts: Two families successfully transitioned to housing of their own this summer. Meanwhile, four families have started with us since August, including the 16-year-old mother and her infant daughter who just moved into our Teen Mother & Baby Program last Monday.

Our last official summer event took place on September 20, when volunteers with the Junior League of Prince George’s County hosted an on-site Field Day for St. Ann’s Center families as part of their annual Find the Good Day initiative.

I love the name of that initiative, because that is exactly what St. Ann’s Center is all about – finding the good: in each day; in each other; in our community; and in our world.

The families who come to St. Ann’s have faced real challenges in their young lives. These experiences can be overwhelming and isolating. Thankfully, you make St. Ann’s a place where – over time, with love and support – that sense of isolation can begin to dissipate, freeing women and their children to forge new relationships that add hopeful dimensions to their lives.

Thank you for the critical role you play in these journeys. I am so grateful.

Gratefully,

Sister Nancy Downing
